Bare Mild Steel Balustrade Replacement in Clerkenwell, London
This bespoke balustrade was designed and fabricated as a replacement for an outdated stair guard within this artist’s home in Clerkenwell.
The new balustrade is formed from bare mild steel, waxed and buffed to highlight the natural grain and tonal variation of the metal.
The folded steel panels create a clean architectural line along the stair, with the handrail fabricated as a crisp, continuous element that sits quietly within the existing interior.
The balustrade was detailed to fix directly into the existing concrete structure, keeping the junctions minimal while allowing the geometry to read clearly.
Artwork throughout the home is by Azadeh Ghotbi, whose visual language complements the raw, honest steel.
