Bespoke Steel & Plywood Shelving Unit, Stoke Newington, London
A bespoke site-specific shelving system designed and fabricated for a private residence in Stoke Newington, London.
The unit is formed from a delicate but rigid framework of 40 × 40 mm mild-steel box section, finished in a clean sprayed coating, paired with plywood shelf inserts to bring warmth, tactility and balance to the composition.
Conceived as a permanent architectural feature within the home, the shelving was designed around the clients’ artwork, books and collected objects.
Each compartment varies subtly in scale, creating a visually calm but functionally adaptable grid that allows the display to evolve over time.
The steel frame was fabricated in modular sections to allow installation within a lived-in home, while achieving crisp joints, invisible fixings and a seamless final appearance.
