Vacancy –  Designer

We are looking for a new designer to join our team, to assist with the design & technical detailing of all bespoke architectural metalwork and furniture created by ZedWorks. Designers are responsible for assisting in progressing a design from concept, through to technical design & modelling and final sign-off.

Rates of pay are competitive and dependent on experience. 

Key tasks

  • Liaise with the client, architect & senior designers to respond to a design brief in a creative, efficient and professional manner.

  • Assist with the creation & compilation of design information to include; 3d models (Rhino preferred), fabrication drawings, moodboards, Photoshop montages, specification schedules.

  • Liaison with Structural Engineer to develop/refine appropriate details.
  • Ensure effective and professional communication with the ZedWorks team.

  • Respond to queries regarding any design or fabrication adjustments the client, workshop or fitters may have.

  • Cross peer checking of work prior to a final review by the Design Director.

  • Liaising with the workshop team regarding best manufacturing practices and following advice on details.

  • Preparing clear and concise drawing packages for the client, workshop & fitting teams, tailoring the level of information required.

  • Use of project management software to track job expenses, log-time and monitor & update programmes as and when tasks are in progress/ completed ensuring that any issues are raised with the project oversight team.
  • Undertake site surveys with an understanding of the critical dimensions required, noting any issues on site with the architect/ contractor that are going to affect the design details and/or installation.

  • Drafting survey information.

    Key requirements

  • Strong command of Rhino

  • Good command of Photoshop (preferred).

  • An understanding of other 3D software such as Sketch-up, CAD Solidworks preferred.

  • A natural three-dimensional understanding. 

  • An understanding of cost and the implications of design decisions/ material choices.

  • Excellent problem-solving and organisational skills.

  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.

  • Good understanding of metal manufacturing processes.

  • Able to both work autonomously and as part of a team.

  • Attention to detail.

  • Integrity.

  • Honesty.

  • Excellent time management skills.
